✦ Synopsis

We use the Meissner effect of su~rconductors to calculate the levitation forces acting on a magnet placed above a superconducting ring. We discuss the applications of our model caiculation to estimates of the interaction forces in macro engineering designs, and of the micro surface roughness effect on the magnetic force microscope.

In a previous study, a general local model was used in order to demonstrate the apparition of a flip effect in the equilibrium orientation of a magnet when it is over a superconducting torus. This effect can be easily used in devices such as binary position detectors for magneto-microscopy, contactl
