โœฆ Synopsis

high PI of a tumour is in itself a result of a later genetic event following initial transformation-a phenomenon of tumour progression at presentation. The role of proliferation parameters in predicting tumour behaviour has been contr~versial.~,~ However, assessment of turnover index could prove to be useful in predicting the behaviour of tumours of similar histology and grade. Its predictive value would be best when tumours of similar volume, or patients in the same pathological stage, are compared. The volume of a tumour is better measured in solid tumours and hence it may prove to be more beneficial. In haemato-lymphoid malignancies, it may be better to use the turnover index to compare patients of similar stage.

Identifying the various genetic alterations that contribute to lymphomagenesis is key to our improved understanding of the biological behavior of the disease. Recently, we and others have defined a tumor suppressor region on the short arm of chromosome 9 harboring a cluster of genes, including MTAP,
