Ahn and Odom-Maryon have investigated the estimation of the common odds ratio of K 2 x 2 contingency tables under the beta-binomial sampling scheme. They have recommended that if the data within a cluster are positively correlated one should use the Mantel-Haenszel estimator with an adjusted variance.
We would like to complement their study by considering the case where the numbers of clusters and the cluster sizes may differ. More importantly, we shall develop the variance of the asymptotic distribution of the Mantel-Haenszel estimator as the number of tables becomes large while the numbers of clusters and the cluster sizes in each table are bounded.
