✦ Synopsis

®ndings suggest that HoNOS proved to be useful and sensitive in monitoring problems and outcome in the elderly. The total HoNOS scores re¯ected an expected worsening in the inpatient group as they had a higher proportion of patients with dementia, while in the resettled group mean HoNOS scores indicated a trend towards improvement, possibly indicating some of the bene®ts of resettlement such as improved living conditions and increased stimulation through various activities available in the community.

Currently, a modi®ed version of HoNOS for the elderly, HoNOS 65, is being developed in which the 12 items remain the same but changes relevant to the elderly are made in the glossary with respect to scoring various items, which may also lead to improvement in its validity and reliability with respect to elderly patients.
