Letter from the outgoing Managing Editor
Dear Readers, In the fifties of the last century, research in many areas of mathematical logic and foundations of mathematics enjoyed a large boom. At that time, my academic mentor, Karl Schröter, and I thought about founding a new journal devoted to these rapidly growing areas of mathematics. After some internationally well-known researchers had accepted the invitation of joining the Editorial Board, the first volume appeared already in 1955, published by the reputable "Deutscher Verlag der Wissenschaften (DVW)". In contrast to the political division of the world into East and West, the "Zeitschrift für Mathematische Logik und Grundlagen der Mathematik (ZML)" connected scientific editors, authors and readers from both sides of the Iron Curtain. When the DVW was closed after the reunification of Germany, the publishing house "Johann Ambrosius Barth (Hüthig)" took over the ZML, which was renamed into "Mathematical Logic Quarterly (MLQ)", for the period from 1992 to 97. Since 1998, our journal has been published by "WILEY-VCH".
After the 50th volume of ZML/MLQ has appeared now, for reasons of age I have to hand over the job of the Editor-in-Chief to a younger colleague. Moreover, I want to thank cordially all the members of the Editorial Board who have assisted me for many years. Some of them are not longer with us. Besides the presently working colleagues, the following people were members of the editorial board:
