✦ Synopsis
Quand les premiers pionniers sont arrivés sur la planète Pern, ils n'étaient pas seuls. Des dauphins à l'intelligence génétique accrue, sont venus avec eux ; ils ont peuplé les océans de la planète, pendant que leurs partenaires humains s'installaient sur les continents. Mais les hommes, menacés par les Fils, condamnés à une lutte désespérée pour survivre, ont fini par oublier jusqu'à l'existence de leurs amis dauphins, réduite au rang de vieille légende. Jusqu'au jour où le jeune Readis et Alemi, partis pêcher en haute mer, sont pris dans une tempête et sauvés par des créatures marines bien plus étranges pour eux que les dragons. Des créatures qui les ramènent sur le rivage et... leur parlent ! Commence alors une fantastique aventure, celle de la reprise de contact entre les deux espèces...
