✦ Synopsis
Within the framework of the unified model, a perturbation method is devised which allows the study of nuclear rotational spectra under quite general conditions, in particular without assuming that the nucleons coupled to the core are on well defined orbitals. It is possible to treat cases where the core is asymmetric or possesses an axis of symmetry and to show that nuclear rotational spectra depend on two degrees of freedom if the core is asymmetric and one if the core has an axis of symmetry. The wave functions of the system are studied in detail. t Cf. E. U. Condon and G. H. Shortley, Theory of atomic spectra, Cambridge Univ. Pre~ (1951)0 p. 59.
