β¦ Synopsis
Environmental auditing poses a difficult decisional problem to every corporation: to do, or not to do. Yet, the choices are not straightforwardly evident even though there is a consensus that environmental audit is an essential component of environmentally responsible corporate management.

This paper offers a primer on the pertinent legislative, regulatory and juridical dilemmas confronting corporate managers in this regard and argues that adoption of meaningful environmental compliance and effective auditing programmes by corporations represents prudentially good business policy.
