This volume contains the proceedings of the second U.S.A. -Aiistralia workshop on Renewable Resource Management held a t Honolulu, Hawaii, December 9-12, 1985. A particular emphasis was given to methods for handling uncertain elements which are present in any real ecological system. The participants work in the fields: Mathematical modeling, dynamical gamelcontrol theory, ecology, and practical management of real systems. Regarding t h a t modeling is the key to analysis and control, the majority of papers deals either directly or indirectly with system modeling. The three parts "I. Modeling/Biology", "11. Control/ Techniques", and "111. Management/Real Problems" show the road from theoretical analysis to practical use. Besides very special contributions on fishery some papers are of a broader interest for the whole field of ecological modeling. Maybe, to -"An Evolutionary Response to Harvesting" by T. L. VINCEPFT & J. S. BROWN should be paid most attention from this more general viewpoint.
The formal papers were written after the workshop and each paper was reviewed by two other participants. These comments are a very valuable part of the volume, and this method of publishing proceedings should be copied frequently.
