Hexachlorcyclopentadien (HEX) ist hochreaktiv und unterliegt Additions-, Substitutions-und Diels-Alder-Reaktionen. Es wird zur Produktion einer Reihe von Pestiziden eingesetzt, ist aber auch Zwischenprodukt bei der Herstellung flammenhemmender Mittel, von synthetischen Harzen und von Farbstoffen. HEX-Dampfe sind hochtoxisch. In vielen Landern ist deshalb der Gebrauch dieses Chemikals begrenzt.
