✦ Synopsis

The authors of this book provide a mathematical exposition of major tools of data analysis. The book contains many case studies from which the reader can begin to infer and understand the auhtor's point of view toward statistics. Hem is developed a special sense and philosophy in the field of date analysis.

Chapters 1 and 2 are concerned with descriptive principal components analysis and with two-way correspondence analyeis. Chapter 3 gives a review of the classical multivariate techniques of canonical analysis and multiple discriminant analysis. In chapter C'mdtiple correspondence analysis is shown to be a generalization of two-way correspondence analysis. Chapter 6 diecusses clustering techniques that can be applied to very large date seta. In chapter 6 hints are given for handling very large data matrim. Chapter 7 discusses various methods for evaluating the reliability of methods from chapten before. In the last chapter a FORTRAN listing for correepondence analysis is given. This book is very helpful for analyzing large data sets even if one has no i m p r b o n of some underlying model. It could be helpful for finding hypotheaes or choosing a statistical model.
