Blended and online learning is nowadays widespread, with students from both campus based and distance universities and colleges facing the prospect of online study either for part or a whole of their course of study. Online study is no longer the preserve of 'techie' enthusiasts, but is often integral to student life in further and higher education, and needs to take its place as an essential part for students from a wide range of backgrounds. Online study imposes many unforeseen demands on students and they are often taken aback at the differences to conventional study.
