## Abstract In this paper, the method of lines (MoLs), which has been proved to be very efficient for calculating the characteristics of one‐dimensional and two‐dimensional planar microwave structures, is extended to nonequidistant discretization with pseudospectral technique. This pseudospectral M

Abstract
In this letter, an efficient multidomain pseudospectral method is implemented to solve leaky waveguides. The exterior subdomains with the evanescent and oscillatory mode shapes, the optical fields are, respectively, expanded by Laguerre‐Gauss functions and Legendre polynomials incorporating simple Mur's absorbing boundary condition. Numerical results verify the effectiveness of the present approach and are in good agreement with exact data. © 2008 Wiley Periodicals, Inc. The imaginary-distance method is applied to an improved finite-difference beam propagation method (IFD-BPM) based on the generalized Douglas method in order to carry out eigenvalue analysis of an optical waveguide. First, we formulate the IFD-BPM to include the polarization dependence. The imaginary
In the paper a novel finite-integration beam-propagation method (FIBPM) is presented. This method is especially suited for the simulation of optical waveguides containing extremely thin layers of complex permittivity. For calculating the propagating optical field an efficient algorithm based on expa
## Abstract This work presents a novel and efficient full‐wave method specifically conceived for the modal analysis of periodic planar metallizations printed on the open side of a dielectric rectangular waveguide. This particular type of structures can be used to conceive interesting backward‐to‐fo
