A study of a wide range of organic molecules that give reversible one-electron oxidations to cation radicals seems to indicate that catalytic regeneration occurs only with very stable cation radicals such as TAA. Cyano-substitution occurs with less stable cation radicals. Details of the voltammetry of cyano-substitution reactions will be reported in the near future.
