✦ Synopsis

Problems of layout and location planning are often encountered in Civil Engineering practice. The quantitative approach to the solution of these problems calls for economic evaluation of location system parameters, formulation of mathematical model of the system, and a search with the aid of the model for the optimal location alternative. Various types of location problems in Civil Engineering are described and mathematical models with prevailing approaches to their solution are presented. Also included, is a brief description of a mathematical model for construction site layout optimization.

In this paper, we introduce a new type of single-facility location problem on networks which includes as special cases most of the classical criteria in the literature. Structural results as well as a finite dominating set for the optimal locations are developed. Also, the extension to the multifaci
