β¦ Synopsis
A cathode material for rechargeable lithium batteries is one possible application for the birnessiteβrelated layered MnO~2~ nanobelts (see Figure) reported here. A simple hydrothermal procedure is described that results in highβpurity, long (up to several tens of micrometers) nanobelts with narrow size dispersion (width 5β15βnm) that are usually selfβassembled into bundles.
