✦ Synopsis

This paper reviews the literature concerning layered double hydroxides (LDHs). The synthesis, characterization and potential uses of such materials are discussed. Experiments in our laboratory concerning the pillaring of LDHs with hexacyanoferrate and other anion complexes oC iron are reported. The synthesis of other LDH complexes containing Ga 3+ is also summarized. Characterization of the LDHs with X-ray diffraction, thermogravimetric analysis, M0ssbauer spectroscopy and electron paramagnetic resonance has been done to study the chemical and physical properties of these materials.
