Abstract
The lattice dynamics of InP under variable hydrostatic pressures is investigated on the basis of an “eleven‐parameter” rigid‐ion model. The one‐phonon and two‐phonon density of states functions are computed for various pressures and these results are compared with the available second‐order Raman spectra. The mode Grüneisen parameters are calculated at two arbitrary pressures. The effect of high pressure on the phonon dispersion curves is shown to lead to ‘softening’ in the transverse acoustic modes and eventually to a phase transformation of the compound. Interesting effects in the [1, 1, 0] and [1, 1, 1] directions are shown by the transverse acoustic mode gammas with increasing pressure and suggests the domination of short‐range forces in these two directions.
