A commonly adopted model for the microstructure of Nephila clavipes major ampullate silk (MAS) is similar to that used for Bombyx mori (silkworm) silk: a simple composite wherein discrete, essentially perfect crystals are dispersed throughout an amorphous protein matrix. However, inconsistencies ari
