✦ Synopsis

It is well known that the Yakutsk array experimental data demonstrate spatial EAS changes at energies above 3 . 10" eV. In this paper we present the analysis of these data in the framework of modern quark-gluon string models and discuss different possibilities.

We explore specially the role of low energy pions. It should be stressed that the account of such contributions proves to be essential at large distances.
