✦ Synopsis

The spectral d~st~bution of phot~~ss~iation yield is measured following UF, excitation in the B band. Dissociation is not uniform, confirming previous results obtained by an entirely different method. The experimentat conditions imposed by the laser snow technique employed in this work may account for the observed difference with respect to the spectral shape measured previously.

Multiphoton ionization of UF s as a probe of laser-induced dissociation of UF 6 is investigated using an ionization chamber. Results are given on the fluence dependence of the multiphoton ionization process and on the pressure dependence of the UF 6 photodissociation.

UFs undergoes decomposition m the presence of SF6 when mixtures of both are madiated wrth a TEA CO2 laser. The mechanism for UFe decomposition may involve vrbrational energy transfer from excited SF, and laser absorption from the same laser pulse by excited UFe in its vibrational quasi-continuum \*
