An effective CW and pulsed laser operation was demonstrated using a grown-together Nd:YVO~4~/YVO~4~ composite rod. The slope efficiencies of 72.97% and 57.23% to absorbed pump power in multi-mode and TEM~00~ mode were reached, respectively. In A-O Q-switched operation, a maximum average output power
