The fluorescence of the first excited state of both the normal (N) and the photoisomer (P) forms of 3,3'-diethyloxadicarbocyanine iodide (DODCI) were analyzed under steady state conditions. Argon ion laser and argon ion pumped dye laser were used for excitation. The long wavelength fluorescence, bel

β¦ Synopsis
Laser optoacoustic spectroscopy with microsecond pulses has been used to study the deactivation processes in 3,3'-diethyloxadicarbocyanine iodide (DODCI). The heat dissipated by the excited molecules within the period of the pulse varies with the excitation wavelength. This observation can be explained by the formation of the photoisomer of DODCI, which deactivates mainly by internal conversion.
