โœฆ Synopsis

Laser-excited

Raman spectra have been obtained of samples while subjected to very high pressure (up to twenty kilobars).

Cpposed diamond anvil pressure cells and commercial Raman spectrometers are used for these experiments. Such Raman data provide a very sensitive probe for determining the effects of high pressures on the structure of molecules and on chemical bonds. The new techniques complement previously developed methods for obtaining visible and infrared spectral data, X-ray diffraction data, and optical microscopic data on pressurized samples [l].
