โœฆ Synopsis

TWO series of transitions invotving excitation of the Sd *Dsa excited state of Cs, np zPan * Sd *Ds~ (n = J J -16) and& 2: -_ Sd 'Ds~ (n = 8-14). have been obyved as a fluorescence excitation spectrum in Cs-rare gas mixtures using a N2 Iaser pumped dye laser. The population of the Sd *D 5n level of Cs is exptained as a laser excitation during a Cs-rare gas collision.

1. introduction

During the course of another investigation of ff uorescence excitation spectra df Cs vapor with a N2 laser pumped dye laser, the purpose of which is irrefevant in the present context, a new fluorescence excitation line at 15445.4 cm-l was observed on the addition of a few torr of Ar, By comparison with the energy level table for the Cs atom [ 11, it appeared

We apply to two-photon resonant ionization of Cs via resonant dissociative states of Cs2 the technique of transition probability saturation. Our measurements are perfotmed both with linear and circular polarization. Independently of the Cs2 density, they provide the first absolute determination of t
