✦ Synopsis


The dressed-molecule method is employed to simulate the interference of two. and four-(2 t 4) photon transitions between the ground XZZ and the excited predissociated ZII, state of Cl,. By variation of the relative phase and intensity of two lasers (one of frequency o,, the other of frequency u2=2w,) it is shown that predissociation in the II, state can be suppressed selectively, i.e. one vibrational level at a time. Consequently, it is possible to control the dissociation yield from the II, predissooiation channel.
