✦ Synopsis
Large-Scale Precioitation from Aauwus Solutions 1 Y Three cases have been selected to demonstrate some particulars encountered in the processes of precipitation from aqueous solutions, in the applicability of laboratory and pilot-plant experimental data for the process scale-up and in the choice of a suitable apparatus for commercial scale installations.
Crystallization of urea nitrate (further referred to a s UN) may serve a s the example pf prpcipitation caused by combijng two concentrated reaction solutions (RYCHLY, NYVLT 1971NYVLT , 1972;; NOVOTNY). Relatively rapidly settling crystalline slurry of UN is formed by mixing the solutions of urea (50-75 %) and nitric acid (30-50 %); additional amounts of UN crystallize when the slurry is cooled down to about O°C, the solubility of UN being decreased by the presence of HNOJ (Fig, 1).
