✦ Synopsis

The in¯uence of a high free-stream turbulent ®eld on a spatially evolving turbulent ¯at plate boundary layer is investigated using large eddy simulation (LES) with a dynamic mixed subgrid-scale model. The evolutions of skin friction, heat transfer coecient, and ¯ow and thermal ®eld are presented and analyzed. The impact of free-stream turbulence on shear stress and velocity pro®les is minimal, whereas substantial heat transfer augmentation is predicted together with a modi®cation of the temperature pro®les in the logarithmic and wake regions.

## Abstract This study investigates the Large‐Eddy Simulation (LES) technique in the diurnally varying atmospheric boundary layer in conditions of realistic environmental forcing. The initial settings of meteorological fields are obtained by ‘ingesting’ into the LES domain the vertical profiles of

In this paper it is presented the application of a higher-order finite volume method based on Moving Least Squares approximations (FV-MLS) to the resolution of non-wall-bounded compressible turbulent flows. Our approach is based on the monotonically implicit Large Eddy Simulation (MILES). The main i
