β¦ Synopsis
Large angle scattering data over the range 15 5 s ,C 6OA-1 (s = (4lr/x) sin@) for the totaL differential cross section for 40 keV electrons scattered by N2 have been obtained. Corn arison of this data with the simpIe Born and Bethe theories show that binding effects vanish by s = 25A-P and that these simple theories adequately represent the data to within 0.5% on an s4Z(s) scale between 25 4 s c 40-x-I. In the region 40 ,C .s< 60 the data deviates from these theories but can be brought into exceUent agreement by the use of 3 reasonable energy response function for the detector.
