β¦ Synopsis
Elastic scattering of 30.5 MeV alpha particles by S'K, 4Β°Ca, 4~Ca, 44Ca and SΒ°Ti has been observed over the angular range from 30 Β° to 170 Β° cm. The energy dependence between 27 and 40 MeV of the elastic scattering of alpha particles by 4Β°Ca has been studied over the same angular range. The most striking feature of the data is the large-angle behaviour. The last few maxima of the large angle oscillatory pattern remain relatively fixed in angle as both the energy and A are changed. The intermediate angular region appears to result from an interference between the large-angle oscillatory pattern and the forward-angle diffraction pattern. Data are also given for the inelastic scattering of alpha particles from the 2 + states, Q = -1.54 and --1.56 MeV, of 42Ca and 5Β°Ti, respectively. Supplementing the optical model potential by a repulsive core V c allows the Anomalous Large Angle Scattering (ALAS) model to be applied to or-particles. Motivated by recent discussions, an analytical soliton formfactor is used for V c that may be interpreted as a "storage" for kinetic energy in com
