The introduction of minimally invasive surgery means that a diverting ileostomy can now be performed with minimal trauma using laparoscopic technique~l-~. Laparoscopic ileostomy is especially suited for patients who need faecal diversion in preparation for perianal surgery or pelvic radiotherapy, or for those with inflammatory bowel disease.
