โฆ Synopsis
Multilayers of 10,12-pentacosadiyonic acid have been constructed by applying the Langmuir-Blodgett technique. The LB films are stabilized by cross-linking and they are characterized with respect to their wettability by water and their electrokinetic potential. They may serve as models in studying the adsorption of proteins from solution on biological surfaces. The proteins used in this study are lysozyme, superoxide dismutase and ~-lactalbumin. The adsorption was monitored by reflectometry. Steric repulsion of the surfactant chains strongly retards or even completely suppresses protein adsorption on these LB films.
