Escrita en estil epistolar, la novel·la és l’acumulació de correspondència enviada a Amsterdam a un xicot homosexual que hi és exiliat. Els corresponsals escriuen des de València i expliquen les seves experiències, que barregen el melodrama amb la farsa, la pornografia amb el pintoresquisme. El personatge receptor mor suïcidat i queda tot el material/testimoni d’un món bigarrat, desgavellat, amb la descripció —també— d’un país que és a la recerca contínua d’arrels i futur i amb el teló de fons de la rutina més casolana, grisa. És una visió «parcial», «personal» de la nostra societat, però no per això no possible.
