Deux jeunes garçons, Danny et Paul Spender s'amusent sur les falaises à côté de chez eux surplombant la Baie de Chapman, dans la campagne anglaise. A l'aide de jumelles, ils découvrent le corps d'une femme nue sur la plage en contrebas à laquelle n'ont accès que les bateaux. Ils l'observent avec la concupiscence de leur âge, jusqu'à ce que l'immobilité de la femme les inquiète. Quand ils comprennent qu'elle est morte, c'est la panique. Ils sont alors rattrapés par Steven Harding, un jeune acteur en visite dans la région qui aussitôt appelle la police. Maggie Jenner, personnage local, en ballade à cheval accompagnée de son chien passe par-là. Quand l'agent Nick Ingram arrive sur les lieux, il remonte le cadavre d'une jolie blonde inconnue puis il se met à interroger les quatre personnes présentes. Très vite, les déclarations de l'artiste le rendent suspicieux. Pendant ce temps, depuis son bateau, une jeune Française est très intriguée par toute cette scène qu'elle filme dans son intégralité.
