Mais Roger doit faire face à un obstacle de taille : personne ne croit à son histoire ! En effet, la maison où a eu lieu l'agression était abandonnée depuis qu'elle avait été le théâtre, un demi-siècle plus tôt, d'un crime odieux perpétré par une mère et sa fille. Pour son entourage, l'affaire est entendue : l'intrépide colporteur a bu un verre de trop. Mais Roger en est sûr, on a bel et bien tenté de l'assassiner...
