The first test schedule undertaken was the witness test of a Weir vertical non-clog variable speed SRC 1200/1400 pump, driven by a 3000 kW 12-pole electric Teco motor through a 3000 kW Robicon variable frequency drive unit. This was part of the test programme for the Northside Storage Tunnel, a new facility designed to capture 80%-90% of the largest wet weather sewer overflow events which currently feed into Sydney harbour. The test was to confirm the pump's capacity to deliver a flow rate of 4050 l/s at a head of 64.5 m.
