hIass cultivation of SpiniIina ior commercial application suffers from poor productivity when measured against laboratory results or theoretical prqjections. Wider applications of algal products require that this gap k reduced. Addition of eucalypttn kraft black liquor at a ma.ximum of O.l?G to Spwulit~a cultures enhanced biomass productivity by at least 469-a. The factors enhancing Spirulinu biomass productivity were insoluble at low pH, of low molecular mass and stable to hi& temperature. Single addition of kraft black liqmr in outdoor continuous cultures afforded sustained enhancement in biomass productivity for at least eight weeks.
