Abstract
This paper discusses and analyses a case study of the New York City Medallion Taxi Cab Service (NYC MTCS), which has been operating successfully for many years and is a visible sign of the vibrancy of the βBig Appleβ. The case study introduces the main stakeholders associated with the medallion cabs' licensing system, discusses current application and examination processes, and outlines how prospective cab drivers acquire knowledge of the possible routes. A comparison is then made with an earlier case study based on acquiring the βKnowledgeβ to become a cab driver in London. This compares some theoretical perspectives with the practical situation in both cities in order to identify similarities and differences in the way knowledge is created and managed.
