computer-aided design systems. The unique contribution of the work lies in the use of natural language standards as a source for systems that produce computer data structures. During a processing cycle, the system described herein will accept a sentence from a building code [BOCA 84] and produce expert-system rules that express the requirements statedin the sentence. Three prototype subsystems have been implemented and a research program defined which spans the next several years.
