By diagonalizing the one-dimensional Frohlich model numerically, we investigate the incommensurate charge density wave states within a mean field approximation. It is found that the midgap band inside the main Peierls energy gap always appears in nearly commensurate states, which is attributed to the formation of the kink (or soliton) lattice of the electron-and ion-density modulations. The overall band structure against band filling is shown to be self-similar and recursive.

Experimental relevance of our finding is discussed.
