โฆ Synopsis
Kingella and Moraxella organisms are gram negative coccobacilli that have rarely been the cause of infectious arthritis. Only 5 cases have been reported (1-5). These have all been due to either the Kingella kingae species or the Moruxella osloensis species. All cases have been characterized by an indolent clinical course without bony involvement. Three were in children (1-3) and 2 in adults (43). Clinical differentiation from noninfectious inflammatory arthritides has been difficult because of the absence of an acute severe onset typical of most infections in joints. Specific antibiotic therapy has resulted in slow but progressive improvement.
Here we report an additional case of infectious arthritis due to Kingella kingae. Related literature is also reviewed.
