✦ Synopsis
The kinetics of formation of three dimensional order from the mesophase have been studied for poly(alkyl terephthaloyl bis-(4-oxybenzoate))s with hexa-, hepta-and decamethylene spacers, using differential scanning calorimetry. The rate of transformation and the crystallinity level attained have been related to the length of the spacer and efficiency of packing. An Avrami exponent of four has been obtained for the three polymers and the values for AHm0 have been reported for the first time. Finally, from the temperature coefficient of the process, the interfacial free energies have been obtained and related to chain flexibilities.
