✦ Synopsis

Polymerization of methyl methacrylate (MMA) with triethanolamine (TEA) and carbon tetrachloride has been investigated in the presence of PdCl 2 and in a dimethylsulfoxide (DMSO) medium by employing a dilatometric technique at 60ЊC. The rate of polymerization has been obtained under the conditions [CCl 4 ]/

The kinetic date indicate the pos-[TEA] Υ… 1. sible participation of the charge-transfer complex formed between the {amine-Pd II } complex and CCl 4 in the polymerization of MMA. In the absence of either CCl 4 or amine, no polymerization of MMA was observed under the present experimental conditions. The rate of polymerization was inhibited by hydroquinone, suggesting a free-radical initiation.

We carried out the radical polymerization of methyl methacrylate (MMA) at 0 -80Β°C in the presence of magnesium bromide. The polymerization rate and the molecular weight of the resulting polymers increased according to the amount of the added magnesium bromide as the Lewis acid. It was revealed that
