The objective of this study was to develop a kinetic model to describe the selectivity typical of iron-based Fischer-Tropsch catalysts and to compare the simulations of the process in the slurry stirred tank reactors with experimental data. The model accounts for the formation of paraffins and olefi

โฆ Synopsis
Rates
of CH,OH formation on a Cu/ZnO catalyst suspended in an inert hydrocarbon were studied in a gradientless autoclave. In addition, the solubilities of Hz, CO, CO, and CH,OH were measured and expressed by Henry's constants. From the rate data (89 experimental runs) a power law type rate expression has been developed which is sufficient for design calculations. Comparisons with models based on mechanistic views and proposed for vapor phase reaction do not offer better data fits. Discrimination among rival mechanistic models is not possible though the rate data seem highly reliable.
