The reaction has been studied spectrophotometrically monitoring the absorbance in the wavelength range. The spectra of the reactants, intermediates, and prod-240-400 nm ucts in this system are overlapping; thus special programs [1,2] have been used (and tested) to unravel the kinetics and mechanism

✦ Synopsis
The kinetics of the oxidation of S20:-by CIOz-have been studied in aqueous alkaline solution at 90°C using classical titrimetric methods to follow the course of the reaction. The reaction takes place according to the stoichiometry SzO: - + 2C10z-+ 20H-= 2S042-+ 2Cl-+ H 2 0 even in large SzO:excess. There is some indication of a complex reaction pattern, but 70% of the CIOz-disappearance can be best described by the autocatalytic rate equation
The mechanism is explained by postulating nucleophilic attack of S20:on HCIOz to form a chlorine-containing intermediate.

The kinetics of the thermal reaction between CF,OF and C,F, have been investigated between 20 and 75°C. It is a homogeneous chain reaction of moderate length where the main product is a mixture of the two isomers l-C,F,OCF, (68%) and 2-C3F,0CF3 (32%). Equimolecular amounts of CF,OOCF, and CsF,, are
