## Abstract Irradiation of 1β(9βphenanthryl)β4βphenylbutenyne (**1**) in aprotic solvents containing oxygen gives two products, namely a photocyclization product, 1βphenyltriphenylene **3**, as is usually formed from diarylbutenynes, and a photooxidation product (2), derived from cyclopropapyrone.
The elimination kinetics of the title compounds were carried out in a static system over the temperature range of 290-330Β°C and pressure range of 29.5-124 torr. The reactions, carried out in seasoned vessels with ally1 bromide, obey first-order rate law, are homogeneous and unimolecular. The tempera
