Book Reviews which studies were initiated by Borg, and their extensions snd re6nements to which this reviewer has contributed heavily. Related to these is the coexistence problem, which concerns itself with the question of when can double eigenvalues arise. This problem and recent advances in it is also discussed at length.
The book presupposes relatively little background on the part of the reader ether than some general knowledge of differential equations and function theory. The preeent volume is devoted entirely to the mathematical theory and totally ignores the many applications.
However, the authors promise a companion volume devoted exclusively to applications. Hopefully we shall not have to wait overly long for this additional material. Together these books should provide a valusble source of information for both mathematicians and applied scientists.
