## Abstract Surfaceโ€initiated photoiniferterโ€mediated photopolymerization (SIโ€PMP) in presence of tetraethylthiuram disulfide is used to directly synthesize surfaceโ€grafted poly(methacrylic acid)โ€__block__โ€poly(__Nโ€__isopropylacrylamide) (PMAAโ€__b__โ€PNIPAM) layers. The response of these PMAAโ€__b__โ€
