✦ Synopsis
Methyl nitrIte, CH30N0. was dlssoclated by mfrared laser pulses of well defined intensity under cokron-less condtttons tn a pulsed molcculnr beam. Doppler-resolved laser-exctted fluorescence spectroscopy determmed the kmetic energy of the nttric oxtde fragments formed tn parttcular quantum states The observed Doppler profiles were Causuan over two e-foldings and. when converted to translational temperatures. corresponded to temperatures in the range of 260 to 350 K for states with 40 to 1308 cm' 1 of rotational energy; no significant correlation was observed between rotational, spm-orbit or lambda doublet stale and kmctic energy.
