✦ Synopsis
pigment plant at Botlek in the Rotterdam docks area. The company has signed an agreement with AVR, guaranteeing the supply of at least 16 tonnes/hour of steam for the Botlek site. AVR generates steam from the household-waste incinerators that it operates in Rotterdam. In recent years, AVR has expanded its operations by taking in householdwaste from the municipalities of Den Haag and Utrecht, as well as from the Rotterdam region.
As a result of this agreement, Kerr-McGee will be able to shut down its own steam-generator at Botlek, which was traditionally fuelled with natural gas. The switch to steam supplied by AVR will mean significant environmental benefits insofar as reducing fossil fuel consumption at Botlek.
